Monomethyl sphingosine or N-methyl-D-erythro-sphingosine is a N-methyl derivative of sphingosine

Monomethyl sphingosine or N-methyl-D-erythro-sphingosine may be used as one of the substrates for sphingosine methyltransferase to test its substrate specificity in rat kidney homogenate.

Monomethyl sphingosine inhibits protein kinase C. It also modulates other protein kinases and enzymes involved in signal transduction.
