Ribosomal S6 kinase (RSK) belongs to the family mitogen-activated kinase (MAPK)-activated protein kinase (MAPKAPK). The gene is located on human chromosome 1p36.11. RSK consists of C-terminal regulatory (CAMK-type) kinase domain (CTKD) and an N-terminal effector (AGC-type) kinase domain (NTKD).
Ribosomal protein S6 kinase A1 (RPS6KA1) or RSK1 is expressed majorly in pancreas, lungs and kidney and it localizes on the plasma membrane of cells.

The antibody detects endogenous levels of P90RSK only when phosphorylated at threonine 573.

Ribosomal protein S6 kinase A1 (RPS6KA1) or RSK1 is an effector kinase in the Ras/ extra-cellular signal-regulated kinases (ERK) signalling pathway. It has an autophosphorylation site at Ser732 residue in the C-terminal domain. A series of autophosphorylation events in the linker and N-terminal domain results in the activation of RSK1. RSK1 overexpressed in primary breast and prostate cancers, may serve as an anticancer target. It is associated with the remodelling of actin and facilitates cytokinesis. RSK1 activation is also implicated in the progression of nodular melanoma. By phosphorylating the death-associated protein kinase (DAPK), RSK1 may inhibit its proapoptotic functionality.
Ribosomal S6 kinase (RSK) regulates cell growth, cell proliferation, survival and motility. It modulates cell signaling responses to growth factors, hormones, and neurotransmitters. RSK controls transcription factors, such as cyclic AMP-responsive element-binding protein (CREB), serum response factor and nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB).
