EVC (Ellis van Creveld) gene is localized to the human chromosome 4p16, and is composed of 21 exons, spanning 120kb. The encoded protein is composed of 992 amino acids. This gene, along with EVC2 gene, forms the EVC gene family.

Anti-EVC antibody produced in rabbit, a Prestige Antibody, is developed and validated by the Human Protein Atlas (HPA) project (www.proteinatlas.org). Mutations in EVC (Ellis van Creveld) gene are responsible for EVC syndrome, which is an autosomal recessive disorder and is characterized by postaxial polydactyly, short ribs and limbs and dysplastic teeth and nails. This gene is over-expressed in adult T-cell leukemia (ATL) and human T-cell leukemia virus type I (HTLV-1)-infected cells. Thus, it has potential as a marker and therapeutic target in HTLV-1-infected T-cells. This gene plays a key role in hedgehog signaling, especially during the growth of cartilage plate. It is localized at the basal body and cilia membrane.
