Catalyst.Sodium hexachloroplatinate(IV) hexahydrate is used as a catalyst. It acts as a source of platinum in the preparation of platinum complex. It is also used in the synthesis of platinum nanoparticles using glutathione as a reducing agent.

Hygroscopic in nature. Incompatible with oxidizing agents.
