Stannous bromide acts a lewis acid. It is used to prepare alkyl tin compounds and in the spectrophotometric determination of iridium. It is involved in regioselective mono-etherfications of vicinal diols with diazo compounds. It acts as a catalyst to produce resinous lactone high polymers. It serves as a potent reducing agent.

Moisture, air and light sensitive. Store in a tightly closed container. Prolonged exposure to atmosphere may degrade the product.
