Potassium tetrachloroaurate(III) hydrate is used as a raw material for the preparation of gold(III) dithiolate complexes, which finds application in luminescence studies, photosensitizers and photocatalysts. Further, it is used for gold electroplating process.

Incompatible with oxidizing agents, ammonia, bases and metals.
