It is employed in a variety of applications such as fertilizers, mineral supplements for animals, waste water treatment, artificial seawater, textiles, paper, fireproofing agents, cements, and fire extinguishers. Pharmaceutical preparations are used in several medicines and topical or skin related applications. It acts as a coagulant in the preparation of tofu from soy milk.
